What is Nia?
Nia is a sensory based movement Practice which can be utilised as a fitness method and as a source of inspiration to keep moving.
Nia is based on the pleasure principle. To guide ourselves, our bodies in ways that feel GOOD.
Nia draws movements and inspiration form Martial Arts, Dance Arts and Healing Arts.
Nia class is a combination of choreographed sequences (form) and self expression (freedom).
Nia is a cardio-vascular play session, rather than a "work out". Each class is an hour and yet, the time speeds by. There's no..."Oh I have to go and exercise..." it's more..."Ooooh! I'm off to dance!" The music starts and before we know it, we are transported by global beats to far off lands and yet we are home...in our bodies, moving Our Body's Way. We warm up gently from the inside out, taking care of all our joints, before we get moving and break a sweat (essential for all round health and vitality) then we cool down and move to the floor to stretch and calm the nervous system.
